Three Important Halloween Safety Tips

Posted By Cardoza Law Offices, Inc. || 31-Oct-2016

However you may choose to celebrate the Halloween holiday this year, it is important to make sure you do everything in your power to make sure you and those around you can also celebrate safely. There are a few ways in which you can do this, and we will discuss them here on this blog.

Don’t Drink and Drive

It’s probably true that you hear this tip constantly, but it nonetheless holds particularly true for Halloween night. Not only is driving while under the influence illegal, but it could result in serious injuries to you or one of the increased pedestrians that are out walking around on this evening. If you know you will be consuming alcohol at a party, be sure to plan ahead and either travel with a designated driver or get a ride from a ridesharing service like Uber or Lyft. The cost of the fare is a small price to pay compared to a drunk driving arrest, or worse, an accident caused by intoxication.

Trick-or-Treat Responsibly

When out trick-or-treating, be sure to use common sense and teach your children to do the same. Follow and enforce general rules, such as looking both ways before crossing any streets, staying in well-lit areas, and only going to houses that you trust. Likewise, stay away from major roads. Because Halloween usually leads to a rise in the previously-discussed intoxicated drivers, staying away from streets with more car traffic will improve your odds of not coming across one.

Prepare for Visitors

If you are hosting a party or will be having trick-or-treaters coming to your door, do your best to prepare for them by securing all potential hazards you may have on your property. For example, if you have a swimming pool, be sure to close and lock the gate surrounding it to prevent any young ones from accidentally falling in. For things which you cannot fix, be sure to place some sort of indication, such as a sign or light to warn those visiting your property of its presence. This can help prevent injury and reduce your liability if something happens.

If you or a loved one are injured over this Halloween holiday, do not hesitate to review your options with the skilled Bay Area personal injury attorneys at Cardoza Law Offices, Inc. Our team has taken more than 250 cases to jury trial, and is unafraid to take whatever route necessary to stand up for your rights and justly-owed compensation.
